Dustin McGlinchey is an innovative advocate, writer, and researcher in the field of urban planning and open government. In 2015 and 2016, he held an internship with the U.S. Department of State as an open government researcher, analyzing open government practices across federal agencies. His findings were presented to representatives throughout the U.S. Government in the federal Open Government Working Group. While attending Florida State University, he engaged in pioneering open government research producing an in-depth history of federal, open government policy and legislation in the United States as well as applying professional planning principals to open government practices.
McGlinchey has worked as an urban planner and project manager on real-estate development projects throughout Florida. Over the years, he worked on a variety of projects ranging from supporting small developers to Fortune 500 Companies. While in the development field, he introduced emerging technologies to his employers to create new revenue streams utilizing planning visualization tools and open data.
McGlinchey is an urban planner/designer, writer, and open government advocate holding a bachelor’s degree in History from Eastern New Mexico University and a master’s degree in Urban and Regional Planning from Florida State University. McGlinchey is also the managing partner of the design firm McG Studios, LLC.
In March of 2019, McGlinchey left his position in the development field to pursue his passion for writing and advocacy for open data and open government policies. McGlinchey is advancing the debate on how governments interact with and inform the public, private, and nonprofit sectors while promoting principles of democracy, cooperation, transparency, and collaboration.
